Fed: Kemp to lead high-level group to SA summit

Environment Minister DAVID KEMP is leading a high-level delegation to Johannesburgfor the largest United Nations-sponsored summit in history.

The group of 50 Australians includes environment and foreign affairs officials, stateministers, business chiefs and green groups.

They'll join 60,000 people at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in South Africa.

On the agenda are moves to cut poverty, improve the climate and try to put in placeconcrete solutions to save the planet.

Dr KEMP will continue to argue the Kyoto protocol to stop global warming cannot workin its current form.

Instead he'll push his plan to improve oceans management, consolidate progress on betteragricultural methods, promote good governance and talk about trade liberalisation.

The summit begins tomorrow.
