NSW: Macdonald demands answers after second major power cut

New South Wales Energy Minister IAN MACDONALD has called for an urgent meeting and
report from EnergyAustralia .. after a second major Sydney power failure in less than
a week.

About 50 thousand homes and businesses in parts of the CBD and inner suburbs lost
power about 10.30 this morning .. trapping people in lifts .. closing the harbour tunnel
.. and blacking out about 50 traffic lights.

Power was restored shortly before noon.

On Monday .. a cable failure blacked out 70 thousand premises and caused evening peak
hour traffic chaos.

Power company EnergyAustralia has apologised for major disruptions to Sydney's power supply.
